Tiana experience at the AI Ethics Competition
Hi, everyone, is me, Tiana.
I'm back today with a story to share with you guys about my experience at the AI Ethics Competition.
Here is some basic information about the AI Ethics Competition: it is an online international competition for high school students who are going to start university in 2026 or 2027, hosted by the IE University. In this competition, I will take part in the role of Chief Ethics Officer at a fictional company called InnoAI Solutions. Moreover, I will create an original AI product and evaluate its potential ethical risks, such as privacy, bias, and fairness, and write a two-page ethical impact analysis and produce a five-minute video presentation summarizing my findings.
At first, I knew this competition through UniFrog (a website that my school uses for future planning), when I was scrolling and researching different universities on the UniFrog website. I came across the suggestion of what I may be interested in. When I first saw the name of the competition, it caught my eye, and when I clicked on it, I realized the deadline for the competition would close soon, so I signed up without knowing what the competition was about. So yeah, as you guys can see, I signed up for that competition very randomly 😅.
More fun fact, I started to brainstorm for my product 1 week before the deadline, and started to write the report and do the video 2 days before the deadline 😅😂. See the procrastination here 😁 (don’t be like me guys, don’t leave things last minutes), even through, I’m a IB student but my time management is not that good, and also that week was a crazy week for me 🥲, so yeah 👍 (if you do IB you will know the amount of work we have to do toward the end of DP1).
Let me share with you guys a bit about my AI product that I came up with.
Meet Azura, a small learning buddy robot, around the size of a teacup poodle, using AI to design personalized learning support through real-time interaction. It has a built-in camera and companion app to scan user hand-written work, offer explanations, and answer questions. The robot also comes with special reflector devices called AI-mirroring, which are meant to be put on the camera of an iPhone or iPad while on the stand. This device is connected to the app and allows real-time interaction between the student’s work and the robot, allowing more accurate handwritten reading. It can give all the information it has scanned through Azura, so Azura can explain how to solve that problem, and give real-time feedback or explanation through the app. Azura is not just a tutor, it is also a buddy. Azura can also play games or play music. You can put an object in front, and it can tell you what the object is. It can even teach how to solve a Rubik's Cube. Additionally it also can personalized your learning regardless the program you study (Azura support all international program like IB, A-level, or AP, and also support other national program), all you have to do is answer a few questions on the app to make it personalized, it can also can personalized different practice question and test sent through the app. Azura is intended for students of all ages and aims to make education more engaging, adaptive, and accessible.

If you guys wonder if I won any ??? I will answer that question for you guys. Well, yes, I did win, to my surprise, I got 2nd place, which gave me a 30% scholarship. Even though I don’t need this scholarship (it only applies to a humanities major) but I am still happy with the result. This is some things very out of the blue, and I never expected to win anything, actually. 2 hours before they announced the winner, I got an email saying that I got selected as 1 of the top 3 participants. I was very surprised, and during the Zoom winner announcement, I got knocked with another surprise that I got 2nd place. When I knew that I was selected as top 3, I just thought, oh great, I think I will just get 3rd place, that's fine (I just don’t have a high expectation for the competition). One of the feedback I remember from the examiner is that my work is really close to what a university is expecting, well, I should thank the IB that 🤣. So yeah, sometimes those spontaneous, random decisions turn out to be the best ones.
That is for today, sorry for the long writing, I know I'm writing a lot today, I hope my experience or my sharing is useful for you guys.
Thank you for reading. See you guys next time.
